Medicare Basics in American Sign Language

The Make Medicare Work Coalition worked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to produce a video on Medicare Basics in American Sign Language (ASL). The video includes information about who can get Medicare, how to enroll, Medicare benefits, and programs to help with costs for people with limited incomes.  Funding for this project was provided by Michael Reese Health Trust, The Retirement Research Foundation, and the Illinois Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP), with additional support from the Arkansas SHIP.

Understanding the Basics of Social Security in Less than 4 Minutes (in English or Spanish)

The National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) produced Social Security: Just the Facts, a three and a half minute video on Social Security’s finances, benefits, and public opinion.  NASI is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization made up of the nation’s leading experts on social insurance.  Its mission is to advance solutions to challenges facing the nation by increasing public understanding of how social insurance contributes to economic security.

Terra Nova Films Videocaregiving: A Visual Education Center for Family Caregivers (in English or Spanish)

Terra Nova Films has produced a series of online, bilingual videos on caregiving for the elderly.  The subjects include:

  • Understanding caregiving
  • How to care for family members with Alzheimer’s disease
  • What is a stroke and how to deal with it
  • Falls prevention
  • Planning ahead – the importance of having an advanced medical directive
